Dataman 48UXP Interfaces
The Dataman 48UXP has two interfaces: USB and Parallel. You can choose either one to connect the unit to your personal computer.
If you wish to use the USB interface then you will need to use the 48XP/UXP software which includes the necessary drivers. The Dataman 48UXP supports both USB 1.1 and USB 2.0. Dataman recommends USB 2.0 for performance reasons. Support for Windows 7 (64-bit) and Windows 8 (64-bit) is limited to USB interface only.
If you wish to use the parallel interface then you will need to use the 48XP/UXP software which includes the necessary drivers. Support for Windows 7 (64-bit) and Windows 8 (64-bit) is limited to USB interface only.
Device Support and Performance Issues
The Dataman 48UXP uses a very data intensive handshake between the personal computer and the programmer during the programming and verifying stages. USB is designed for large data transfer between the host and the USB device. The 48UXP is not able to take full advantage of this due to the bulk transfer nature of the USB bus.
This causes the handshake to be very inefficient, furthermore this overhead causes a reduction in programming speed and verification of microprocessor devices under the USB interface.
Due to this issue, we have removed certain MCU devices from the USB software. If the speed decrease is an issue or the MCU is not supported under the USB software then we recommend that you use the parallel port and run the parallel software as mentioned previously.
