The ISO 14001 environmental management standards exist to help organisations minimise how their operations negatively affect the environment, comply with applicable laws, regulations and other environmentally oriented requirements and to continually monitor and improve the above.

An Environmental Management System is there to specify requirements for establishing an environmental policy. In particular, determining the environmental aspects and impacts the products, activities, and services that a business produces has on the environment.

Associated environmental objectives with measurable targets can be developed from these investigations and then implemented into the business which are constantly managed to meet the set targets laid out in these objectives. All of which allow for either corrective action to be taken and/or improvements to be developed into the way the business performs.
